What is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward public expression that signifies a change has happened deep inside your heart.  We believe that baptism is an experience based on a personal decision to follow Christ. Often being baptized is the first step of obedience we take after we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour.

Since Jesus Himself made the command for us to be baptized, when we step out of our comfort zone and do something that puts our faith into action, He meets us at that moment.  There is something truly powerful about publicly declaring Jesus and showing Him your full devotion.  This is just the beginning of a life full of beautiful and powerful moments, doing whatever it is that God asks of you. Everything about your old life and old way of doing things is symbolically washed away in the water of baptism.

Baptism doesn’t make you a believer, it shows that you already believe in the Lord. Baptism does not save you, only faith in Jesus Christ does. Baptism is like a wedding ring – it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you make in your heart.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I know I am ready to be baptized?

As soon as you believe, and put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, you are ready for baptism. It only matters that you’ve made the conscious choice to repent of your sin and believe in your heart that Jesus is your personal Saviour.

Does HEMBC baptize infants?

At HEMBC, we dedicate, rather than baptize children. We see baptism as a reflection of an individual’s decision to follow Jesus. It’s why we wait to baptize children until they are old enough to understand and believe. For more information on that click here: Baby Dedication.

Can I choose who baptizes me?

Yes, you can, however, we will assign your area pastor to baptize you if you do not have any preference. In case the pastor you requested is not available, a different pastor will be assigned to baptize you.

I’m ready to be baptized, what should I do next?

The next step when you are ready for baptism is to fill out a baptism request form. Click this link to REGISTER NOW.

What happens after baptism?

After baptism, your pastor will connect with you. Together you will determine the next step on your journey. This will either be joining a group in your area or volunteering at HEMBC, or both.
